The analyses address research topics in maternal, newborn and child survival that touch upon more than one of the technical areas of coverage, equity, financing, and policies/systems. Five studies are undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams of researchers: (i) the determinants of coverage and the characteristics of countries making the most and least progress towards achieving MDGs 4 and 5, (ii) effect of changes in user fees and other pro-poor legislation/financing initiatives on coverage for the poorest, (iii) effect of changes in average coverage levels on equity in coverage, and effect of type of service delivery mode and human resource factors on coverage and equity, (iv) a detailed analysis of progress and priorities for maternal, newborn and child health in selected high burden countries impact of changes in financial flows on coverage, and (v) the effect of financial flows on coverage. The results will be presented in the Countdown report and website, and papers will be submitted to the Lancet.
