Coverage is the foundation of the Countdown to 2015 initiative.  The Countdown tracks progress in the achievement of high, equitable and sustained coverage for interventions that are proven to reduce mortality among women of reproductive age, newborns and children less than five years of age, and publicizes the results as a means of holding countries and their partners accountable for progress and stimulating continuous improvement .

The Working Group on Coverage aims to ensure that all measures of coverage included in the Countdown reflect the best available indicators and data, reported in standard and transparent ways across countries and over time.  This requires developing and maintaining links with other groups who are involved in the collection, analysis and reporting on key coverage indicators, and working to address methodological challenges.

The Working Group on Coverage will also lead and coordinate secondary analyses of the Countdown coverage data in collaboration with other Working Groups and researchers.  This is needed in order to ensure that the Countdown initiative continues to contribute to knowledge about factors that promote or hinder the rapid scale up of effective interventions.

This work will be based jointly in the UNICEF Division of Policy and Planning in New York and the Institute for International Programs at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore.
